Since October 7, 2023 and the counter-offensive by the Palestinian resistance, the Zionist state has been carrying out a terrible genocidal offensive in the Gaza Strip, claiming tens of thousands of victims, displacing millions of people and destroying almost all the enclave’s infrastructure. He is confronted by the implacable resistance of an entire people who are fighting against this genocide and more than 76 years of Zionist settlement on their land, Palestine.

But this is a struggle that concerns the entire Arab world, since Israel is nothing more than Western imperialism’s outpost in the region. That’s why the Lebanese resistance supports Gaza by confronting the Zionist regime on its border with occupied Palestine, aware that it is nothing but a vehicle for war, expansionism and imperialist domination. Recently, the Zionist state has stepped up its air strikes and terrorist attacks, killing hundreds, wounding thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands. The southern regions have been hard hit, as have the Bekaa Valley, Beirut and the whole country. This follows the recent statement by criminal and Zionist war minister Yoav Gallant that the military center of gravity was gradually shifting to Lebanon. This is why it is more necessary than ever to support the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance on this front!

This is especially strategic as Lebanon is home to a large number of Palestinian refugees, who have played and must play a major role in the struggle to return to their homeland liberated from colonialism.

In this context, Secours Rouge de Belgique, Secours Rouge Genève and Secours Rouge Toulouse have decided to launch a solidarity campaign with the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) in Lebanon. Founded in 1972, this communist party is involved in the resistance against Israel, and brings together both Palestinian and Lebanese militants. It is a member of Masar Badil – the Alternative Movement of the Palestinian Revolutionary Path, and links the fight against Zionism and imperialism to the necessary revolutionary perspective in Lebanon, the Arab world and internationally.

In Saida, a coastal town south of Beirut, the PDP set up a popular clinic in 1985, which operates without any help from NGOs. Doctors who share socialist ideals come six days a week to treat more than a dozen patients a day. In addition to the clinic, the PDP also organizes a popular canteen. Set up during the covid, it enables the most disadvantaged to have access to hot meals in a dignified manner. Over 350 meals are served every day, financed solely by private donations.

It is the responsibility of the revolutionary left to consistently support anti-imperialist and anti-Zionist resistance. We see the struggle for the liberation of Palestine as an integral part of the global struggle for a future free of capitalism, fascism and imperialism.

That’s why we’re calling for direct support for the PDP’s work through a campaign to raise funds for its social activities.

Against imperialism and Zionism, in solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance!

For a free and democratic Palestine from the sea to the Jordan!
Solidarity with the Popular Democratic Party in Lebanon!
